Mt. Sparrowhawk is located along the Spray Lakes Road in Kananaskis Country. Apparently this mountain was considered as the location for alpine events during the ’88 Calgary Olympics. Since Saturday the 13th was the first day of the 2010 Olympics we thought is was an appropriate location for the day.

I had never been to the Mt. Shark Nordic skiing area before but had wanted to check it out as it`s groomed for skate technique and in a beautiful part of Kananaskis. Since there hasn`t really been any new snow for a few weeks, we decided that this weekend would be the one to check Mt. Shark out.

Kootenay Pass is (according to Wikipedia) the highest highway-served pass in Canada that is open year-round with an elevation of 1775 meters. Located on Highway 3 between Creston and Salmo the pass is also home to some nice scenery and some great backcountry skiing.
